Carter to continue career at Bluefield College

BLUEFIELD — Justin Carter will continue to play football at Mitchell Stadium. The Bluefield High School wide receiver/defensive back signed Tuesday to attend Bluefield College and play for Coach Ordell Walker.

A four-year starter with extensive experience on both sides of the ball, Carter is delighted to join the Rams, though BC was not his first choice.

“I was planning on going to Fairmont State but it didn’t work out,” Carter said. “Bluefield offered, so I went. I will work my hardest and hopefully help the team and help get their first win.

Walker is thrilled with the newest member of the Bluefield College football program.

“He’s a great, great kid. Everybody speaks well of him,” Walker said. He is really tall, has good hands, good speed, a guy who is versatile. We just saw it as a great opportunity to get a hometown guy who is very talented and I think he is going to help us out.”

While playing both sides of the ball in high school, Walker indicated that Carter will be used on defense at cornerback, but did not rule out using him on offense.

Carter said the BHS coaches have been great in helping his development and not just on the gridiron.

“They’ve helped me mentally and physically, helped me get stronger for the next level and helped me become a man for when I leave this school,” Carter said.

BHS head coach Fred Simon said, “They’re getting a kid who can play a lot of positions. He (Carter) is getting an opportunity to go to school and not have to dig real deep in that pocketbook.”

Carter plans to major in sports medicine.
