Concord made it four wins over two days against the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, defeating the Cavaliers 6-5 and 13-5 on Sunday at Anderson Field to match its single-season record for wins with 36.
The Mountain East Conference tournament will begin next week, with the Mountain Lions slated to play Notre Dame on Thursday at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley.
Joey Miller had four hits, including two home runs — one of which was a grand slam — and also scored four runs and drove in seven. In four games, he was 8-for-14 with thee homers, two doubles, seven runs and 14 RBIs.
Jerrod Groves had four hits, while Bret Blevins, who is now batting a team-high .407, had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 19.
Blevins now has 268 hits at Concord, just eight shy of tying the school record of 276 held by Donovan Huffer. Blevins also has 25 stolen bases this season.
Tim Leather picked up the win in the opener, while Chris Baker collected the save. Kevin Mack was the winning pitcher in the nightcap.
Concord, which scored 51 runs in the four-game sweep, has now won 11 of its last 13 games.
