BLUEFIELD —  A pair of Tazewell County products are producing for teams at Liberty University. Tazewell High School’s Trey Lambert not only boasts a 3.94 GPA, but has compiled a 9-1 record for the 35-10 Flames, along with a 2.27 ERA, striking out 53 and walking 14. Lambert has been selected to the  National Pitcher of the Year watch list.  Richlands product Megan Robinson is contributing to the Liberty softball team. A junior, Robinson is batting .303 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs, nine doubles and seven stolen bases.

Virginia Tech and new head men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams will visit Penn State for the 16th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods on Dec. 6.  The Hokies are 3-5 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and 1-3 in road games in the Challenge. Virginia Tech is 6-1 all-time against the Nittany Lions, falling to Penn State in the ACC/Big Challenge 66-61 in 2007.

Maryland and Virginia will renew their basketball rivalry — now as nonconference foes. The Terrapins will host the Cavaliers in the 16th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge in December. It’s the first time Maryland will be representing the Big Ten after leaving the Atlantic Coast Conference, for which it went 10-5 in the event.
