Concord softball sets school record

ATHENS — The Concord softball team broke the school record for wins with a doubleheader sweep of Charleston on Thursday, defeating the Golden Eagles 7-5 and 8-2.

Concord improved to 22-11, and 6-8 in the Mountain East Conference.

Feshman Lauren Lewis led Concor with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs. Her two-run homer keyed a six-run inning in the opening game.

Sophomore Alyssa Morris added a home run, two runs scored and drew three walks.

Concord travels today to Glenville State.



Lady Rams swept

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Georgetown improvd to 21-9 on the season, sweeping past Bluefield 10-2 and 10-1 at Graham Recreation Park.

Morgan Stephens drove in Bluefield’s lone run in the 10-1 finale.

Bluefield dropped to 3-33, with a 1-23 mark in the Mid-South Conference, with Cumberlands, Ky., in town for a twinbill today.

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State women’s tennis defeated the Bobcats on Thursday at Bluefield City Courts.

Second seed Tafadswa Mawisire won a singles match and combined with Wendy Rudhu for a doubles victory.

Bluefield State (2-9) will travel to the Bloomsburg Duals today in Pennsylvania.
