Cumberland holds on to defeat BC Rams

LEBANON, Tenn. — The NAIA No. 12-ranked Cumberland Tigers (35-15-1) struck for seven runs in the second inning and held on to beat the Bluefield College Rams (17-25) 9-5 in Mid-South Conference baseball action, Friday afternoon in Western Tennessee.

Rams’ starting pitcher Sean Williams worked seven innings and was responsible for all nine Cumberland runs, though only five were earned. He surrendered 11 hits, walked six and struck out three. Kyle Long pitch a scoreless eighth and struck out one.

For Cumberland it was the Kevin Greene show on the mound. Kevin T. Green pitched the first seven innings and picked up the win. He allowed one run no five hits and struck out six. Kevin P. Green hurled the final two frames and gave up four runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three Bluefield batters.

Chris Rosa connected for a three-run homer in the eighth and Trevor Martin had a pair of hits including an RBI double in the ninth for the Rams.
