ELKINS — Davis & Elkins did not trail on Sunday after scoring three runs in the first inning against Concord starter Devin Smith, and the Senators went on to beat the Mountain Lions 8-4.

The Senators added two more runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0 before the Mountain Lions scored their first run of the day on a passed ball in the third inning.

Concord inched closer in the fourth inning when freshman outfielder Andrew Seigel drove in two runs off of a double to cut the D&E lead to just 5-3. Seigel proceeded to bring Concord to within one run of the Senators when he hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to score sophomore second baseman Jerrod Groves.

However, Davis & Elkins responded with three runs in the seventh inning to push its lead to 8-4, a lead the Senators would keep for the rest of the game to avoid the three-game sweep.

Despite the loss, Concord (23-16, 18-7 WVIAC) took the series against the Senators two games to one. Concord has won four of its last five road games.

The Mountain Lions return home to Anderson field for seven consecutive games starting with a doubleheader against West Liberty Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
