Trickett named starting QB for WVU in 2014 season

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University says Clint Trickett will be the team’s starting quarterback entering the 2014 season.

Head football coach Dana Holgorsen announced the move Tuesday.

Trickett transferred to WVU from Florida State as a redshirt junior in 2013. He saw action in eight games with seven starts, completing 123-of-233 passes for 1,605 yards and seven touchdowns.

Trickett underwent offseason shoulder surgery but Holgorsen says he’s 100 percent healthy and ready to play.

The Mountaineers’ season gets underway Aug. 30, when WVU faces Alabama at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. WVU opens the home portion of its schedule against Towson on Sept. 6.
