Mid-South honors BC's Watson

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Bluefield College goalkeeper Jefferson Watson was named the Mid-South Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior stopped all 11 shots he faced last week as the Rams went 2-0. He recorded his second shutout of the season versus Montreat, and on Sunday against St. Catharine College, he stopped seven shots, including the Patriots’ one shot on goal during overtime.

He’s not allowed a score since Sept. 28, a span of nearly 333 minutes in goal.

The award is the first for Watson in the Mid-South Conference, while he earned the same weekly honor during the 2011 season when the Rams were members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Watson ranks fourth in the conference with a 1.81 goals against average and is sixth with 47 saves.

The Rams, who improved to 8-6 this season behind the two wins this week, play next on Wednesday at Concord University. Game time is 4 p.m.
