Bluefield State picks up rare softball win

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield State won its second softball game of the season, snapping Kentucky State’s eight-game win streak with an 8-2 non-conference win on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Graham Rec Park.

Bluefield State (2-27) dropped the opener of the twinbill 9-0, but came back to beat the Thorobrettes in the finale.

Lindsey Whited, Megan Dakins, Reva Davis, and Loren Whited each recorded two hits for the Lady Blues in the win, while Davis drove in three runs.

Loren Whited earned the complete game win, allowing seven hits, striking out four and walking just two.

Taylor Vierra pitched a perfect game in an five-inning affair against the Lady Blues in the opener. Mandy Cokeley took the loss for Bluefield State.

The Lady Blues are back in action Saturday when they travel to Seton Hill.
