Concord senior Evan Muscari, left, carded a 4-under 67 to earn medalist honors and lead the Mountain Lions' men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Oglebay Resort Intercollegiate Invitational in Wheeling.
It was Muscari’s third win of the season.
Freshman Brady Noland finished in a tie for 19th for Concord. Matthew Sydnor (50th), Noah Sparks (54th) and Phil Campbell (60th) also represented the Mountain Lions.
Peareth places 10th
BLACKLICK, Ohio — Senior Stephanie Peareth, right, shot a 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for 10th place at the NC4K College Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican. Marina Erice (63rd) and former Bluefield High School standout Alex Smith (67th) also participated for the Concord’s women’s team.
Track and Field
Concord University track and field athlete Shawnee Carnett has been named the Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week. Carnett, who recently captured the NCAA D-II national title in the 800-meter run, had another standout performance last weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va. Carnett ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:34.78 to place sixth in the 1,500-meter run, which is also currently sixth fastest in the nation. She also placed third in the 400-meter dash thanks to a school-record time of 56.17 seconds as well as placing 25th in the 200-meter dash at 26.51 seconds. Carnett is currently ranked third in the nation in the 800-meters in the outdoor season.
