Bluefield State hoops teams pick up wins

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State Big Blues got 30 points from Treon Claiborne and 28 from Shakir Dunning to defeat the Salem International Tigers 100-91, Saturday afternoon at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Dominique Cartier added 12 points on four three point goals, while Avery Holliday had sive assists, five steals and six rebounds. Sam Ouedraogo led BSC with nine rebounds.

After starting the season 0-5, Bluefield State is now 7-12 on the season.

Three Salem players scored 19 points including former Blufield State recruit   Alex Webb, Abel Tillman and Freddy Edouard.

Women

BSC 69, Ohio Valley 61

VIENNA — The Lady Blues of Bluefield State College won their seventh straight game, the latest coming Saturday afternoon over the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University.

Tasia Nolan led the Lady Blues with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Jenaya Abernathy came off the bench to tally 11 points with three assists and two steals, while Kearah Jefferys and Shay Gravely each scored 10.

Imani Ward was Ohio Valley’s leading scorer with 18 points.

Bluefield State is now 11-9 and winners of 10 of their last 11 games.

The team remains undefeated in 2014.
