Mike Archer hired as defensive assistant at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia coach Mike London has completed his staff with the hiring of Mike Archer as a defensive assistant.

London announced the hire on Thursday. The move brings Archer back to Virginia, where he coached in 1991 and 1992, and reunites him with Cavaliers assistant coaches Tom O’Brien and Jon Tenuta. He worked with both at N.C. State, where Archer was the defensive coordinator from 2007-12. The school said in a release that Archer’s specific coaching assignment has not been finalized.

The 60-year-old Archer has 37 years of coaching experience in college and the NFL.

He was out of coaching last season after being part of O’Brien’s staff that was fired following the 2012 season.
