Bluefield College reaches school record for wins

EAST RIVER — The Bluefield College women’s soccer team won a school record eighth game on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Rio Grande (Ohio) at the East River Soccer Complex.

The victory locks up a spot in the Mid-South Conference tournament as the sixth seed.

Enajah Winbush netted her seventh goal of the season, while Nicole Bradley scored off an assist from Jessica Dutka. Bradley, Dakota Duckworth, Ashley Moreno, and Missy Baines held the Red Storm to just seven shots as the Rams earned their second straight win.

“Our girls showed a lot of heart tonight, we didn't play our best match of the season, but defensively we shut Rio Grande down for an entire 90 minutes. As a result it allowed us to find our attack and we scored two great goals,” Bluefield women’s coach Chase Neidig said. "I give all the credit to our players for being committed to this season and making this season the best ever. They've earned this victory and they earned the right to make their mark as the best team in program history.

"I am excited as we look forward to making a push in the playoffs."

•Rio Grande, the top-ranked men’s team in NAIA, defeated Bluefield 6-1, scoring three goals in each half. Richard Isberner scored five goals in the win. Anthony Hunt scored for the Rams.

•The Concord women’s soccer team won for the eighth straight time with a 2-1 win over Seton Hill, clinching a spot in the WVIAC tournament and improving to 9-6-2 on the season.

•Caleb Bone and Ryan Forde scored goals to lead the Concord men’s team to a 2-0 win over winless Ohio Valley for their third straight victory.
