K-State women squeak by cold-shooting UVa

FREEPORT, The Bahamas — Kansas State held Virginia to 27 percent shooting from the field to hold off the Cavaliers 49-46 on Friday in the consolation game of the Junkanoo Jam Tournament on Grand Bahama Island.

Virginia’s Kelsey Wolfe sank one of two free throws with 23 seconds left to produce a one-possession game, but three-point attempts by Ataira Franklin and Wolfe in the final five seconds were unsuccessful.

Haley Texada topped Kansas State’s scoring with 13 points. Leticia Romero had seven points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals while committing eight turnovers.

Sarah Imovbioh led Virginia (3-4) with 20 points and 15 rebounds. She scored 12 of Virginia’s 18 points in the first half, which ended with Kansas State ahead by three points. Wolfe chipped in 18 points, 12 of them coming from 13 foul shots.

Kansas State (3-3) held a 45 to 33 rebounding edge. Virginia, which has lost three straight, took 20 free throws, making 12, while the victors were 4 for 8 at the line.
