BRISTOL, Va. —
Virginia Intermont poured in field goals at a 52 percent success rate in the second half against Bluefield College on Friday evening and took an 89-83 win from the Lady Rams.
Bluefield (5-4) got 18 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and a block from Asia Wheeler and 23 points and seven steals from Teqa McNeal, but the Cobras (5-5) answered with 41 points from Rainey Story, who was 19 for 21 at the foul line.
The Lady Rams held a six-point halftime lead, 43-37, but made only 15 of 42 field-goal tries in the second half.
With 4:09 left, Bluefield clung to a 77-74 advantage. Story then sank a layup and tied the game with a free throw. That started a 9-0 run by the Cobras and they never trailed thereafter.
Bluefield is off until starting a three-game homestand on Jan. 2, playing Pikeville at the Dome Gymnasium.
