Bluefield splits twinbill with Cumberland

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Asia Wheeler scored 21 points and snared 12 rebounds, leading the Lady Rams past Mid-South Conference foe Cumberland 74-56 on Thursday night at the Dome Gymnasium.

Janee Simmons added 19 points and 14 boards for Bluefield, while Teqa McNeal contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Destiny Tolliver collected eight points, nine boards and two blocked shots.

Tasia Blue led Cumberland (7-6, 3-2) with 17 points, while TaCouya Allen added 11 points and six rebounds. Blue canned five 3s in defeat.

Bluefield (7-5, 2-2), which led 34-26 at the break, and outrebounded Cumberland 50-28, will host Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Cumberland 90, Bluefield 83

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Marquel Hickerson scored 20 points to lead four Cumberland scorers in double figures in a Mid-South Conference win over the Rams at the Dome Gymnasium.

Bluefield also had four double figure scorers, led by Kearsten Marion with 23 points and Andrew Wilson with 18. Josh Nesbit and Alex Lubsey added 11 apiece.

Cumberland (11-3, 3-2) also received 16 points each from Daniel McFadden and Josh Wilkerson, while Lamar Brinkley had 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Lubsey added six rebounds for Bluefield, which committed 18 turnovers.

He also had five assists. Marion and Eric Dukes had three steals apiece.

Bluefield (7-4, 1-3) will host Lindsay Wilson on Saturday at 4 p.m.
