Princeton’s Akers scores eight in Marshall victory

HUNTINGTON — Princeton product McKenzie Akers scored eight points in 21 minutes of action, including hitting a pair of 3s, leading Marshall to a 62-47 non-conference win over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon.

Marshall (5-5) was led by Norrisha Victrum with 16 points, Leah Scott with 13 and Suporia Dickens added 11. Chelsey Romero pulled down 14 rebounds. Victrum also had four assists and three steals.

Delaware State (3-7) was led by Raven Bankston with 21.

Virginia Tech 82, Radford 33

RADFORD, Va. — Uju Ugoka dropped in 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Hokies past the Highlanders to improve to 9-2 on the season.

Ugoka’s performance marked her sixth consecutive double-double of the season as Ugoka joins Karen Garbis as the only other Tech player to record six straight.

Garbis accomplished the feat in 1978.

Radford dropped to 2-9.

West Virginia 88, Duquesne 80

PITTSBURGH — Asia Bussie recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and the Mountaineers overcame a late charge by the Dukes to  pull away for the win and improve to 10-1 on the season.

Taylor Palmer added 11 points off the bench for West Virginia.  

Duquesne, which was led by April Robinson with 20 points and Olivia Bresnahan with 19, trailed by 26 points at one point in the second half.
