Dunning’s 32 not enough for Bluefield State

BLUEFIELD — Evrik Gary led four Francis Marion scorers in double figures to lead the Patriots past Bluefield State 83-70 on Thursday night at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Kent State transfer Shakir Dunning led the Big Blues with 32 points, hitting five of Bluefield State’s nine 3s. Simeon Denny added 14 points in the loss.

Francis Marion took a 39-28 lead at the break, and never looked back. Clark Major scored 18 points, Mykel Harris added 17 and Dustin Jones tossed in 10

Gary also had nine rebounds and two blocked shots, while David Brown dished out seven assists.

Dominique Cartier added eight points and three steals for Bluefield State. Sam Ouedraogo added a game-high 14 rebounds and six points.

Bluefield State will visit Division I Longwood on Saturday.
