Mom turns in son’s guns, teen arrested

LAWRENCE, Mass. — An 18-year-old Massachusetts man might think twice the next time his mother issues a command.

Following a family flap, a woman brought two unlicensed handguns to the police station last weekend, leading to her son's arrest on weapons charges.

She told police that Saturday morning, while her son was handling a gun in his bedroom, it went off and a bullet went through a wall into his sister’s bedroom, almost striking her.

After the incident, the mother had a fight with her son and told him to get the guns out of the house, according to Lawrence police Chief John Romero.

Later in the day, she returned to her son’s bedroom and spotted the guns – a .44 magnum revolver, fully loaded, and a .22 Luger automatic. That’s when she confiscated them and headed for the police department.

The teenager was charged with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm and other violations. Police are investigating whether the guns were used in a nearby holdup.
