Trio fake stabbing at public gathering

— LAWRENCE, Mass. — Just a few yards from where 15,000 gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Three Saints, three men decided it would be a good idea to film a fake stabbing to put on the social networking site YouTube.

All three men found themselves on camera again Tuesday, this time as they stood before a judge in district court.

Police received several 911 calls Saturday night from frantic witnesses, who were there to enjoy the annual event. Witnesses told police they saw three men and a woman recording what seemed to be a stabbing.

One of the male suspects was wearing a black trench coat, similar to the one worn by one of the suspects in the 1999 Columbine School Massacre and carrying a machete dripping blood, a police officer wrote in his report.

“They were making a video of a fake stabbing which created an alarming situation,” Police Chief John Romero said.

One of those arrested told police the knife was real, but the incident was not.

The trio was released on bond and was given an Oct. 31 court date.
