RICHMOND, Va. —
A fire that destroyed a vacant building on Mercer Street in Princeton has been ruled an arson.
The fire was reported at 823 Mercer Street at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Nearby apartments were evacuated, and Mercer Street was closed for a period of time following the blaze.
“The fire has been ruled an incendiary, or set fire, and is now being worked as a criminal investigation,” Assistant State Fire Marshal Scott Rodes said. “Anybody with information concerning this fire, or any other fires in the Princeton area, is urged to contact either local law enforcement or the arson hotline.”
The arson hotline number is 1-800-233 FIRE.
The demolition of the fire-ravaged structure continues today.
The body of a Princeton resident, Angela Lynne McKinney Cook, 35, was found at the same building Jan. 19. The unrelated investigation into her death is continuing.
