Meyer resigns as school superintendent of Tazewell County

— — The Tazewell County School Board voted unanimously Monday to accept the resignation of School Superintendent Dr. Michaelene Meyer.

“The school board informed Dr. Meyer in March that it desired to have the opportunity to make its own selection of a superintendent, but made it clear that the decision was not because of her performance,” according to a prepared statement read by board president David Woodard. “Over the past month, the details of a transition plan were worked out. As part of that transition, Dr. Meyer will resign effective the end of the school year, and the school board will pay Dr. Meyer an amount equal to her base salary of $120,000 in equal installments during the 2014-2015 school year.”

Jimmy Jones, the board’s vice chairman, said the school board has not yet started the process of finding a replacement for Meyer.
