A fast-moving snow storm dumped a foot or more of snow on the region late Wednesday and through the early morning hours today. Bluefield had 12 inches of snow at 8:30 a.m., while Wytheville, Va., had 14 inches. A Giles County emergency dispatcher in Pearisburg, Va., said the National Weather Service is reporting that Mountain Lake reported 18 inches of snow.
“We are encouraging everyone to stay off the roads and let the Department of Highways crews work to get the roads open,” Sgt. Jose Centeno of the Princeton Detachment, West Virginia State Police said. “The interstate is open, but most of the other roads are snow-covered.”
