Earl Click was sentenced to life in prison on his first-degree murder conviction and another indeterminate sentence of 1-5 years on his conviction for conspiracy.
Click, 27, of Grundy,Va., said he was sorry for the victim’s family and thanked the court for giving him a fair trial. However, McDowell County Circuit Court Judge Booker T. Stephens cautioned Click that thanking him for a fair trial might hurt his chances of appeal, so Click took it back.
Jerry Roncella, the sister of murder victim Dr. Tom C. Hatcher, mayor of War, told the court she wanted to express the family’s outrage over what happened to Hatcher.
The court explained that Click would be eligible for parole after serving 15 years in prison.
