GRUNDY, Va. —
Tornado watch issued for several Southwest Virginia counties, including Buchanan, Russell, Dickenson, Lee and Wise. The tornado watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. this evening.
In addition to the tornado watch, a flash flood watch has been issued for much of the region, including Mercer, Tazewell, Bland and Giles counties. According to the flash flood watch, a large and slowly moving storm system will draw very moist air into the Appalachian region from the Gulf of Mexico through Wednesday. A series of upper level waves through Tuesday night, and then the passage of a cold front on Wednesday, will result in two to three rounds of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms for most of the region.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Area residents are asked to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
