New arrest made in connection with city beating, robbery investigation

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield police have arrested a new suspect in the ongoing investigation of the beating and robbery of Daniel Baker, 54, of Bluefield.

Damon Valentine, no age available, of Bluefield, was charged with unlawful assault on Friday morning,according to Detective K.L. Adams of the Bluefield Police Department. Adams said an anonymous tip regarding a female suspect involved in the crime led to Valentine’s arrest.

Kayla Price, no age available, of Princeton, admitted to soliciting Baker for oral sex in the early morning of May 22. Adams said Kayla Price, along with her husband Jaime Price and Valentine, returned to Baker’s residence to ask for more money to purchase drugs.

Adams said Jaime Price and Valentine beat Baker after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault Kayla Price.

Valentine admitted to assaulting Baker to authorities, according to a report by Adams.

Bluefield Magistrate Susan Honaker set a $50,000 surety bond.
