Contractors are currently in the process of packing up so the northbound fast lane on Interstate 77 near Bluefield can reopen.
Tom Camden, supervisor of District 10 for the state Department of Highways, said the plan is to reopen the fast lane at mile-marker 3 by approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday.
“The contractor is in the process of packing up and moving out, and we’ll probably have another day or so out there cleaning up some of the debris, but we should not have to close the northbound lanes to do that,” Camden said. “The fast lane should remain open while we do that. It’s our hope that we can get both lanes open by the weekend.”
Northbound traffic has been rerouted onto U.S. Route 460 east so it can rejoin I-77 in Princeton. Contractors have been working to reduce the chances for a rockslide.
