• Leona Halsey Alvis, 86, of Ranch MHP, Princeton died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Joyce Esther Wall Ayers, 76, of 1302 North Walker St., Princeton died peacefully Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Princeton Health Care Facility in Princeton. Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Ruby Goldie Hicks Delph, 76, of Princeton Health Care Center, formerly of 345 Lilly Grove Dr. in Princeton, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Arlie Guy “Gus” Farmer, 46, of Black Oak Mountain, Princeton, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his home. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Walter V. Fletcher Sr., 87, formerly of Princeton Towers, Princeton, and Georgia, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at Heartland of Beckley. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Kenneth Higginbotham, 70, of Princeton, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 in Lincolnton, N.C. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Darrel B. Lester, 54, of the Twin Oakes Subdivision near Elgood died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale was in charge of arrangements.

• James L. “Jim” Long, 73, of Patteson Lane, Green Valley (Bluefield) died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and two of his children. Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Lenora Hatfield McCoy, 73, of 22 Amber Lane in Princeton died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Jackie Lee Mills, 51, of Bud died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in a Princeton Hospital following a long illness. Tankersley Funeral Home in Mullens was in charge of arrangements.

• Katherine Gay Shrewsbury, 66, of Reese Harmon Ridge, Lashmeet, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, was in charge of arrangements.

• Garland Curtis Six, 82, of 144 Swan Lane, Quail Valley in Princeton, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton was in charge arrangements.

• Lyle Landon “Lannie” Stike Jr., 60, of Villa Mobile Home Park in Green Valley, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton was in charge arrangements.

• Garfield L. Thomas, 92, of the New Zion Road near Oakvale died Monday, May 18, 2009 at his residence. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale was in charge of arrangements.

• Mark D. “Marty” Walker, 50, of the Kelly's Tank Community near Willowton died Saturday, May 16, 2009 as a result of injuries he received after being struck by a car at Kellysville. Monday, May 18, 2009 at his residence. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale was in charge of arrangements.

Obituary



Titus Randolph Payne

NORFOLK, Va. — Titus Randolph Payne, 82, passed away May 15, 2009 surrounded by his family. Titus was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Thelma Purdue; a brother, Charles Payne; and a grandson, Christopher Burdette.

He retired from the Norfolk Western and Virginian Railroad after 50 years of service and proudly served our country in the United States Navy.

Titus is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Sue; three children, Debi and her husband Sammy, Chuck and David; two sisters, Edith and Lois; four grandchildren, Mike, Shana, Leanne and Shelly; six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with Military Honors was conducted on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Road, Suffolk, Va. with the Rev. J. Tracy Bradshaw officiating. The family received friends in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, Va. on Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.altmeyer.com
